Thinning my ornament collection

Thinning my ornament collection is going to take a while. I guess you cannot collect for nearly 50 years and expect to let go quickly or easily. Of course a few have broken over time but I have boxes full. I will be listing some and gifting some and hanging some back in the tree. Some are Hallmark collectible that were gifted to me and others are from the ornament exchanges I participated in over the years.  
So this cutie does not have much history: He is a 1998 Hasbro Tinkertoy elf trimming the tree with an angel. 
This precious peace dove glove came from an ornament exchange. Nice in bisque dates to about 15 years ago. 


The hardest one to offer up came from my MIL in 1970. The Gorham Cut Crystal Christmas Angel with the Gold wings Ornament is from 1970 made in Germany. She bought me an ornament every year from a charity group she supported.

Drawers are overstuffed with Christmas prints and items for year around use. We loved to buy tablecloths and napkins but who needs 47 napkins? How am I going to use 3 table runners and 8 placemats for the 2 of us over the next month? Did I mention my table is oval and I have at least 5 round tablecloths? Lets talk lap blankets / individual coverups. We must love them because we have at least a dozen left in various fabrics, colors and conditions. Some are as big as a twin size, most are travel size or lap size. Hubby bought a beautiful plaid wool stadium blanket in the late 70s from a woman who used to take it to all the UT football games. Now with 17 moth holes, it is relegated to his office sofa. I recently sold a down lap blanket that was under a pile of towels in my closet--who even knew it was in our house?? More offerings from the depths of the closet

I began this journey a year ago with a large box of jewelry from my MIL who died in the mid 1960s. We have been such packrats that we have many, many vintage belongings in the closet and in our drawers. As I have sold and cleared out more just seems to wiggle its way out and up to the top, things I never even knew I had or had long forgotten.  Almost all the jewelry from Madeline is gone but many of her antique finds remain.  Many of the slightly vintage items we bought in the 80s are now really vintage.  Who knew bandanas would appreciate in value while beanie babies did not?  Electronics from the 70s and 80s are truly vintage now.  George's army uniforms and some of his dad's sold well leav ing only a few.
